This morning, E! reported that Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have been on a break for the last two months. The two “have been spending time apart since early November,” the source told the outlet. “[They] think it’s best for the sake of their relationship right now.” But now Us Weekly is taking it further: it’s not a break, it’s a breakup. Hadid and Malik are over…at least for now, anyway.

“They’re done,” a source told Us. “They could get back together, but it’s over for now.”

A second source explained there was an honest effort to make their second go at their relationship a success. The two “tried hard to make it work,” the source said, but Malik has “a lot of his own issues that she couldn’t help him get through.”

Being with Malik isolated Hadid from the rest of her circle. “She cut herself off from all her friends every time they were together,” the second source continued. “She focused all her time and energy on him, but it just got to be too much.”

Hadid and Malik originally ended their two year relationship in March last year. The two released their own separate statements on Twitter.

“Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship, and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and a friend,” Malik posted first on Twitter. “She has such an incredible soul. I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at the time, we wish this news could have come from us first. We love you all. xZ”

Hadid posted her own statement second: “Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there is really no way to put into words what two people experience together over a few years .. not only in the relationship, but in life in general,” she wrote. “I’m forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared. I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for. As for the future, whatever’s meant to be will always be. xG.”

Hadid and Malik would reconcile in April last year but generally kept their relationship more private. Hadid only posted one photo showing her clearly with Malik to her permanent Instagram grid during their revived relationship, back in October.
