Warning: Contains minor spoilers for Stranger Things 3.
Obviously, the return of Stranger Things for its third season was going to bring some familiar faces. Eleven and her gang of pals; the now grown-up teens Jonathan, Steve, and Nancy; and adults Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper are all back to fight the Mind Flayer. (There are a few new faces, too—including Maya Hawke’s super-smart Robin, and some Russian baddies.)
But one new face in particular might stir some memories. Mayor Larry Kline is bad news—we know that right from the first moment we meet him. The people of Hawkins are protesting outside his office because the new Starcourt Mall is taking business away from mom-and-pop stores around town. Chief Jim Hopper gets called in to clear the protesters out, and drops in to have a chat to the mayor. Mayor Kline doesn’t seem to care at all about the townspeople’s concerns, and is planning a huge fun fair to distract them from the effect the mall is having on the town. What a jerk! (We later find out he’s cheating on his wife. What a jerk!)
This is what he looks like:
Does he look familiar? This should help:
Yep, the actor who plays Mayor Kline is none other than Cary Elwes, who played the dreamy hero Wesley (a.k.a. the Dread Pirate Roberts) in 1987 classic The Princess Bride. I know it’s tough thinking of the sweet farmboy as a bad guy, but isn’t it nice to see him again? As you wish!
Stranger Things 3 is streaming now on Netflix.
