Selena Gomez has been keeping a pretty minimal presence on social media since she returned to the spotlight in December. But glimpses of Gomez out have been shared here and there on Instagram by friends—friends who (save Taylor Swift) are mostly not in the industry. Entertainment Tonight detailed in a new report just why those people—girls like Raquelle Stevens, Courtney Barry, Connar Franklin, and Ashley Cookhave been so important to Gomez.

Entertainment Tonight‘s source started by giving an update of what Gomez has been doing these days. “Selena is working out a lot, taking different workout classes and hiking,” the source explained. “She has also been spending time with her close friends, most of whom aren’t in the Hollywood scene.”

Those people have been around for a long time—and have made a major impact on Gomez as she navigates life as she juggles day-to-day living and A-list fame. “Selena does a good job of hanging out with people who aren’t in Hollywood—it’s always been her thing,” the source said. “She has famous friends, but the friends that keep her grounded have been around forever and Selena can be her true self [around them].”

Gomez called out Cook, Barry, and Stevens on her Instagram back in August last year. The four got matching tattoos to celebrate their friendship. “These women have stayed by my side for 7 years (@ashley_cook 12 years),” Gomez wrote. She then explained the meaning of their group tattoo. “4, because you are my 4 for the rest of my life. I love you ladies. You all inspire me to be better, stronger, closer to god and we have lived the most INSANE story together already. Can’t wait for 50 more!! Ps @raquellestevens had an actual panic attack 🙄 it’s a dot!”
